Senior Safeguarding & Ethics Policy

Every person who takes part in our activities has the right to dignity, safety and to be heard.

01Principles

We commit to respect for autonomy, protection from harm, non-discrimination and accessibility. No member is ever spoken to as though age reduced their competence. Assistance is offered, never imposed.

02Volunteer standards

All volunteers and tutors read and sign this policy before their first session. They must not accept gifts or money from members, must not enter a member's home alone without prior arrangement with the Social Support Coordinator, and must never assist with banking transactions on a member's behalf — only teach the member to perform them independently.

03Financial abuse prevention

Volunteers never handle members' cards, PINs or passwords, and never act as a signatory or witness on a member's financial document. Suspicion of financial exploitation, including by family members, must be reported to the Secretary General on the same day.

04Accessibility

Venues are selected for step-free access or, where that is impossible, an alternative session is offered. Printed materials use a minimum 14-point type; a large-print version is always available. Sessions include seated options and scheduled rest breaks.

05Reporting concerns

Any member, family member or volunteer may raise a concern verbally or in writing to the Secretary General or President. Concerns are recorded, acknowledged within three working days and investigated confidentially by two board members. Where a criminal offence is suspected, the matter is referred to the police and social services.

06Photography and consent

No photograph or recording is made or published without prior written consent, which may be withdrawn at any time. Consent status is checked before every publication.
